Blink and you might miss it. The drone industry is changing. What is today will become what was tomorrow. Everything from regulations, trends, and technologies are advancing at a rapid rate. Staying up-to-date on the latest developments can certainly feel like a herculean task. The moment you think you know everything is really the moment you realize how far behind today’s progress you’ve become.
Surviving in the drone industry (commercially speaking), requires a concerted effort to stay current on developments as they occur. Take for example the recent announcement from UPS on their groundbreaking FAA Part 135 certification. What does this mean for our industry? How soon will we see packages flying in the sky? How will this impact current regulatory and technological developments? The list goes on and on.
Perhaps more important than anything, when it comes to sustainability in this industry, is one key element: collaboration. To those that operate behind closed doors, with no care for the happenings around them, keeping pace with the ever changing tides of the drone industry would be nearly impossible. On the other hand, those individuals and companies that immerse themselves with others in the industry by shaking hands, starting conversations, and sharing information foster an environment of community and collaboration. The best solutions to the biggest problems will come from the biggest like-minded efforts.
Everyone in the industry should have the same goal – to make drone usage thrive and to perpetuate the good that they can achieve. Fail, and the struggle for survival will become insurmountable. The hopes and aspirations of what is now a remarkably promising industry will simmer into seeming insignificance. Succeed, and the pathways for yet unforeseen drone applications will become reality. The world as we know it will never be the same.
There is so much going on in and around the world of drones. Many of the most amazing developments and stories have yet to be told. None of us know what the future will look like, but together, we can ensure that all of us will be there to reflect on the amazing work we will have achieved.
What can you do today to promote the movement known as Drones for Good? How do you stay up-to-date on the latest trends? Why not take a minute to share your thoughts? Remember, collaboration is key!
